Auto Electrician – Ballarat VIC

About the role  
Take charge of custom trailer builds and cutting-edge wiring systems as a hands-on Auto Electrician in a fast-paced, high-performance workshop. 

Duties 

  • Diagnose and repair advanced vehicle electrical systems, including CAN bus and other high speed networks 
  • Design and install custom wiring for trailers, including lighting, load control, and looms 
  • Draft and interpret wiring diagrams for one-off trailer builds 
  • Use diagnostic tools to quickly find faults in complex wiring systems 
  • Ensure every installation meets ADR and OH&S standards 
  • Work closely with fabrication and mechanical teams for fully integrated solutions 
  • Maintain clear records, wiring diagrams, and service documentation 
  • Stay updated on the latest in CAN, LIN, and multiplex technologies 

Skills and experience 

  • Trade-qualified Auto Electrician with Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology (or equivalent) 
  • Hands-on experience with CANbus, LIN, and multiplex wiring systems 
  • Confident in reading, designing, and drafting wiring diagrams and schematics from scratch 
  • Skilled in using diagnostic tools like scan tools, multimeters, and oscilloscopes for precise fault-finding 
  • Solid knowledge of ADR compliance, load calculations, and safe electrical installation practices 
  • Capable of working independently on complex builds with minimal supervision 
  • High attention to detail with strong documentation skills, especially for fleet or client-specific work 
  • Excellent communicator and team player, able to collaborate effectively with mechanical and fabrication teams
