About the role
A long-established, family-owned manufacturing business (70+ years) is seeking an experienced Maintenance Fitter for their Gold Coast operation in Molendinar. You will perform preventative maintenance, breakdown repairs, and improvement work on a wide range of in-house production machinery (CNC, coiling machines, furnaces, conveyors, shot peening, etc.). You’ll join a skilled, long-tenured team of fitters and receive structured mentorship (~6 months) from experienced operators to quickly master the equipment. Ideal for a trade-qualified fitter with strong MIG/TIG welding, fabrication, and mechanical troubleshooting skills (90% mechanical focus), who values stability and a supportive, family-oriented workplace with many team members of 10–30+ years’ service.
Duties
- Preventative maintenance and breakdown repairs across all machinery (CNC machines, coiling machines, furnaces, conveyors etc)
- Learn and upskill on the machines, their parts, and processes (mentored by an experienced operator for ~6 months)
- Flexibility to wear different hats and tackle a broad range of tasks.
Skills and experience
- Essential: Welding/fabrication skills, boilermaking, maintenance fitting. Proficiency in MIG & TIG welding.
- Desirable: Electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic experience (support available in-house).
- Additional: Lathe experience or comfort working with lathes is a plus.
- Experience Level: Ideally 15–20 years, able to troubleshoot mechanical faults (90% mechanical, 10% electrical).
- Certifications & Tickets:
- Core tickets: Welding/fab, boilermaking.
- Additional tickets (e.g., confined space) are advantageous, but support/training can be provided.
Benefits
- Up to $50 per hour (depending on experience)
- Spread shifts between 5:00am–5:00pm (5:00am–2:30pm or 7:30am–5:00pm)
- Performance-based bonuses paid twice yearly (subject to company performance)
- 6-hour day on the last day of the week (rotating weekly)
