About the role
This is a hands-on Field Service Technician position servicing a variety of heavy mobile plant and civil equipment across Melbourne’s South Eastern suburbs and surrounding areas. You’ll be responsible for diagnosing faults, carrying out repairs and completing preventative maintenance on equipment including excavators, dozers, dump trucks and other mobile plant.
The role offers plenty of variety, with technicians attending waste management sites, quarries, civil sites and a large government operation. You’ll generally start around 7:30am and work Monday to Friday, with most jobs involving around an hour of travel. You’ll have the autonomy to manage jobs on site while working alongside an experienced team and apprentices.
This is best suited to a trade-qualified Mobile Plant / Heavy Diesel Mechanic who enjoys field service, is confident with diagnostics and fault-finding, and takes pride in getting equipment back up and running efficiently.
Duties
- Carry out field servicing, repairs and maintenance on heavy mobile plant and civil equipment.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and hydraulic faults across excavators, dozers, dump trucks and other mobile plant.
- Attend customer sites across the South Eastern suburbs and Melbourne, with most travel around an hour.
- Complete scheduled and breakdown maintenance, ensuring equipment is returned to service efficiently.
- Work alongside apprentices and other qualified technicians in the field.
- Maintain a high standard of workmanship while working across waste management, quarry, government and civil sites.
- Complete jobs independently in a field-based environment, with the priority being to get the equipment repaired and operational.
Skills and experience
- Trade-qualified Heavy Diesel / Mobile Plant Mechanic.
- Proven experience working on mobile plant and heavy equipment.
- Genuine field service experience is strongly preferred.
- Strong mechanical diagnostic and troubleshooting ability.
- Experience with equipment such as excavators, dozers, dump trucks or similar civil/mobile plant.
- Able to work independently at customer sites and manage jobs from diagnosis through to repair.
- Strong communication skills and a professional approach when dealing with customers.
- Current driver’s licence.
- Comfortable working across different customer sites and occasionally working beyond normal hours when required.
